OC-tober Day 4: Under-appreciated OC
🥺 I hate to think of any of my OCs as under appreciated... but it's GG for sure... Baby I'm so sorry.... Let's gush about her a bit to make up for it!
GG Graceless is my main sci-fi OC. As a huge sci-fi fan it's kind of a shame I don't have more of them tbh, so for now she gets to be number 1! Which she would love lol, GG is very self confident and thinks highly of herself. If a plan she thought of went wrong, she'd much sooner blame it on someone else rather than herself. But she's a lovable kind of egomaniac, and hopefully she comes off as the kind of person you want to root for rather than see fail. She does have talent to back up her bravado though, as she's an accomplished starship pilot (not massive ones but personal sized vehicles) as well as very charismatic. She's become a bit of a sly thief, as her main possessions, a starship and an ancient artifact, are both things she's taken without permission. Because she deserves them and she can use them better than anyone else!
The setting she's in is a galaxy sprawling mess where anything can happen (hard sci-fi this is not lol), in a time so far from now humanity can't remember a time when they didn't rule the stars. I imagine the main "hook" being the search for the lost planet Earth, with GG having caught a lead she's trying to pursue. In addition to her piloting skills and people skills, she's secretly a history nerd and has obsessed over humanities origins since she was young, though she hides that from most people in order to obscure her intentions and because she's embarrassed about her passions a la fear of being known.
I believe she grew up in a communal family without a set guardian for most of her life, possibly because she was an orphan? (we are getting into the underdeveloped parts of her... sorry GG...) At some point she does find someone she admires like a father, but I imagine she betrays his trust (he's likely the source of the stolen starship) because when she executes her plan she wants something to keep herself from returning home.
By the way, the original design for her ancient human artifact is a big ass JRPG looking spear that collapses down to its tip that's about 8 in (?) across, which she then wears on her chest or hip in disguise. Reference Perun from XC2's spear for example. This is entirely "rule of cool" and I have no idea what the purpose of this artifact is supposed to be or how it actually helps her. It may get scrapped some day but it looks so cool in my head... The other parts of her outfit are much more mellow. GG wears a simple pink dress that's longer in the back than the front, resembling a cape. Her arms and shoulders are covered by a white cropped jacket that merges with the dress in the back for a sci-fi feel (outfits that look like they're made of different parts but it's actually all one thing).
Oh, and the "Graceless" part doesn't have any special meaning currently. But it sounds cool! So I keep it <3

okay, hmm, I have a thing to ask again if that's alright. (please see the bottom of the post for a poll)
I made my carrd (as it currently exists) quite hastily, particularly when it comes to the F/O lists (which are, really, the main things it's there for!). While the tables work decently on desktop, they aren't good for mobile due to how the formatting works - so, I want to change the layout to something better, that uses lists.
One thing I was mulling over while doing this is whether I should sort my F/O lists by type (so romantics, familials, platonics, potentials), or by series (so Pokémon, FFXIV, Xenoblade Chronicles, and so on, if I have the elements to do so). The former way was how I did it before, but I've made a quick mockup of the latter just to illustrate what I mean, in case that way would be clearer/easier to refer to:
Tumblr media
Is it easier/more useful to have F/O list pages sorted by series or by type? And is it useful to have info about which self-insert is used for which on that same page, instead of it all being in the self-inserts page, or would that make things too cluttered on the F/O list pages? I want to go with whatever other people find easiest, because they will be the ones who will be referring back to my carrd most.
The key information I want my carrd to have on it somewhere is:
The name, source, and blog tag for every one of my F/Os - romantic ones, familial ones, platonic ones, and then also crushes and other potential F/Os
The name, source, and blog tag for all of my self-inserts
The name, source, and blog tag for all of my romantic selfships, since the tag tells you which self-insert I use for each selfship
Somewhere within all of that, the information about which F/O is associated/interacts with which self-insert (to stick with XC2 as an example: I use Sapphire to selfship romantically with Pyra and Perun, but Calanthe to selfship with KOS-MOS, and despite both Sapphire and Calanthe co-existing in the party together, Nia is specifically more friends with Sapphire while Mòrag is specifically more friends with Calanthe)
Does that make sense? I know it's a lot of info, but that is why I'm determined to have it be presented in whichever way other people find easiest to navigate and refer back to.
So, with that in mind, if I may open the question to everyone:
Thank you kindly for reading! I hope this all makes sense .w.

⭐?
Hello, Simon! Thank you very much for sending this in - it really means a lot!~
(source: this post by sennamybeloved)
send me a “⭐️” and i’ll use a random thing picker to choose one of my F/Os, and i’ll reply to the ask with a small infodump about my selfship with them! - Alright, so, for this one I got Perun! I was hoping it'd be someone from something that I know you know, but the wheel decided to continue the XC2 theme, it seems.
Perun is one of the Rare Blades that you can obtain by chance from awakening Core Crystals in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. She's an ice-element Blade who wields a Megalance, and.. she's generally not thought of as being very powerful by comparison to many other characters. (This does not stop me using her a lot, however.) In terms of her personality, Perun is very valiant and determined to do what is right, even if she ends up pushing herself beyond her limits at times because of that determination. The self-insert that I use to selfship with Perun is my main XC2 self-insert, Sapphire! This is the same self-insert that I use to selfship with Pyra, but I selfship with both of the characters in different versions of events, rather than simultaneously (though am still friendly with the other in both!)
In the story of my selfship, Sapphire meets Perun during the early part of Chapter 5, as her Core Crystal is found broken in the Leftherian Archipelago by the party. The fact that her crystal was broken would normally have meant that she could never be awakened; however, Sapphire has the power to crystallise small amounts of atmospheric ether in order to fix damage done to Core Crystals, which allows them to be resonated with again (and thus, the Blade within them to be reawakened). Since Sapphire herself lacks the aptitude required to become a Driver by resonating with a Blade's Core Crystal, it was instead Mòrag who became Perun's Driver in my version of events; the two are very well-suited to each other in both a personality way and a gameplay way, so they quickly became close, but Perun also wanted to get to know Sapphire well too, since it’s only thanks to the power she has that she could have been reawakened. So, we end up talking a lot as time passes, and.. I will admit that the exact details aren’t really very well-established, but we do end up eventually falling in love with each other! ^-^
I hope that all that was okay as an infodump! I really want to play XC2 again now, haha - I’d actually probably say that Perun is the character I’ve played as/alongside the most out of all my XC2 F/Os, since I normally tend to play as Mòrag and I awakened Perun with her on my first playthrough. Thank you very much again for sending this to me - it really means a lot that you took the time to do so!!~

I found my favorite combination of characters for Xenoblade 2.
I dub this team the “Never-Ending Driver Combo Team.” It consists of Tora, Nia, and Zeke.
Click or tap on “Keep Reading” to learn about this team. Believe me, this is going to take a bit for me to explain this team set up.
Be warned, there will be spoilers for the base game of XC2, as well as NG+ and DLC spoilers. Be aware of this as you read on. There will not be any Torna ~ The Golden Country spoilers in this post, so if you haven’t played that yet, you’ll be safe from spoilers here.
Let’s begin with the set up for the Driver Arts and Blades.
Tora should have Poppi QT Pi with the Speedy Sword and Swooshing Slash Arts to inflict Break and Launch respectively. He should also have Poppi QT with the Dented Shield Art to inflict Smash, and Poppi Alpha with the Big Boost Art to inflict Topple.
For Nia, she should have a Blade that can inflict Break. I used Dromarch for this, but I’m aware of the fact that he kind of sucks in battle, so you can use a Blade with a Bitball or an Ether Cannon to inflict Break as well. If you are playing NG+, you can use Obrona, Perdido, or Mikhail for this purpose. If you have the DLC, you can also use Fiora or Elma.
She should have a Blade capable of Toppling the enemy, too. I used Gorg for this, but you can use any other Greataxe Blade for this purpose as well (other Greataxe Blades include Zenobia, Dagas, Agate, T-elos, and Common Blades). If you are playing NG+, you can also use Akhos for this purpose.
Finally, she should have a Blade that will allow her to inflict Launch. I used Ursula for this, but you can use any other Knuckle Claw Blade for this purpose as well (other Knuckle Claw Blades include Adenine, Kora, Nim, and Common Blades). If you are playing NG+, you can also use Cressidus or Sever for this purpose.
For Zeke, he should have a Blade that can Launch an enemy. I used Pandoria for this, but he also use a Blade with a Shied Hammer for this purpose (other Blades with Shield Hammers include Godfrey, Finch, Electra, Kasandra, Common Blades, and, if you have the DLC, Poppibuster). If you have the DLC, you can also use Shulk for this purpose.
He should have a Blade capable of inflicting Topple as well. I used T-elos for this, but you can also use any other Greataxe Blade for this purpose. Zeke can also use a Blade with Knuckle Claws to inflict Topple. If you are playing NG+, Akhos, Cressidus, and Sever can be used for this purpose too.
Finally, Zeke should have a Blade that can inflict Smash. I used Praxis for this purpose, but you can use any other Megalance Blade for this purpose as well (other Blades with Megalances include Perun, Wulfric, Vale, and Common Blades.). If you are playing NG+, Patroka can be used for this purpose as well. If you have the DLC, Corvin will work just fine.
I know that putting Break, Topple, Launch, and Smash Arts on more than one Driver can be redundant, but this serves as a precaution should the A.I not continue the Driver Combo on their own.
For the Acessories, Tora and Nia should have a Beta Scope (a Legendary Rarity will be the best version to use). This Accessory makes it easier to inflict Break onto enemies. They can also use an Accessory that increases their Luck stat, as a high Luck stat can better the chances of inflicting Break on an enemy.
For Aux Cores, I don’t have any suggestions for this, other than Hunter’s Chemistry to get to Max Affinity faster. If you got any ideas, feel free to experiment!
For Pouch Items, I recommend using a Dessert Pouch Item. Any Dessert Pouch Item will use, but I tend to use the Narcipear Jelly. This Pouch Item allows for Arts to recharge by 0.4 every second. It will also decrease the amount of physical damage by 4% and decreases the amount of ether damage taken by 3%. This item’s effect will be boosted by 20% if you use it on Gorg, Praxis, Ursula, or Vale. You can get this Pouch Item from the Honeycomb Sweets shop in the Argentum Trade Guild.
For the Affinity Charts of the Driver, I recommend that you have the following Skills unlocked:
Feral Awakening I, II, and III (Nia) [These skills enable you to use the Arts assigned to X, Y, and B, respectively, at the beginning of a battle.]
Hard Hitter (Nia) [This skill extends Break duration by 15%.]
Tooth and Claw (Nia) [This skill enables you to use a Driver Art after canceling another Driver Art. Successful cancellation of a Driver Art or auto-attack is indicated by a blue-colored ring appearing on the screen if timed correctly. It also has a sound cue, should you not see the ring on screen.]
Focused Technique (Nia) [This skill reduces enemy Break resistance by 25%. Do note that this skill can not obtained until NG+, as this is on Nia’s Hidden Affinity Chart. To find this Hidden Affinity chart, go to a character’s Affinity Chart screen in NG+ and press X.]
Lucky Cat (Nia) [This skill increases Nia’s Luck stat by 20. Do note that this is a Hidden Affinity Chart skill.]
Lady of Luck (Nia) [This skill increases Nia’s Luck by 10%. Do note that this a Hidden Affinity Chart skill.]
Raring to Go I, II, and III (Tora) [These skills have the same effects as Nia’s Feral Awakening I, II, and III skills.]
Luckypon (Tora) [This skill increases Tora’s Luck by 20.]
Double-Luckypon (Tora) [This skill increases Tora’s Luck by 10%, similar to that of Nia’s Lady of Luck skill.]
Nopon Chain Arts (Tora) [This skill has the same effect as Nia’s Tooth and Claw skill.]
Nopon Topple Arts (Tora) [This skills extends the duration of Topple by 15%. Do note that this is a Hidden Affinity Skill.]
Look Over There! (Tora) [This skill reduces enemy Break resistance, similar to that of the Beta Scope. Do note that this is a Hidden Affinity Skill.]
Mach Prep I, II, and III (Zeke) [These skills have the same effects as Nia’s Tooth and Claw I, II, and III, as well as Tora’s Raring to Go I, II, and III.]
Lucky Duck (Zeke) [This skill increases Zeke’s Luck by 20, identical to that of Nia’s Lucky Cat skill and Tora’s Luckypon skill.]
Move Chaining (Zeke) [This skill has the same effect as Nia’s Tooth and Claw skill and Tora’s Nopon Chain Arts skill.]
Air Extender (Zeke) [This skill extends the duration of Launch by 15%.]
Unleash Shining Justice (Zeke) [This skill can only be used in NG+ after reaching Max Affinity with Pandoria and pressing +. This skill can only be used once per battle, and it only lasts for a certain amount of time. I’ll admit, I have no idea what this actually does as of right now, and I don’t want any spoilers on that.]
For a Blade’s Affinity Chart, get the Blades you want to use to S Rank Trust if you want to get the best out of them. Bonus points if you have S1-S+ Trust with them.
That’s all I can think of for now. If I missed anything, or if you have any suggestions for a change in the team, feel free to let me know and/or experiment with it yourself! I personally enjoy this team, as this team can make it so that you can barely get hit by an enemy’s attacks, but maybe Rex and Morag can do something that Tora, Zeke, or Nia can’t do! Maybe there are Blades that I am overlooking too? What do you guys have for team combinations in XC2?
As a final note, this team can not be fully utilized until you have reached Chapter 8 in the main story at the very least. Poppi QT Pi can not be obtained until then. In NG+, you must wait until the end of Chapter 4 to use this team. If you obtained Poppi QT Pi in your original playthrough, you will have access to QT Pi as soon as you get QT.
If you want to use T-elos in your set up, you should be aware of the fact that she can not be awakened until the post-game.

This may be a bit too specific but were there any vocal prompts from XC2/Torna DLC that made you crack a smile whenever they popped up? Nia's "Gimme gimme!" is fun but Hugo's references ("Don't forget me!" & "This is the culmination of Years of sovereignty!") were definitely a beautiful highlight to the Torna DLC. Even if chain attacks sometimes turn into jarring flashbacks. Alternatively were there any you hate? Perun & Tora always kinda grate on my nerves in a fight. Rikki did too tbf
Haze roasting Mythra at the end of a fight was one of my favorite moments. I fucking laugh everytime because hearing Haze roast someone is somehow soul fulfilling for me. This is only in the Eng voices. As for jpn voices- ACTUALLY ENG TOO. FUCKING NIA. NIA HAS THE FUNNIEST LINES AND VOCAL PROMPTS.
The vocal prompts that have ever pissed me off? There was a few in x with Yelv... Actually just him. In 2? Azami... I really hate Azami as a character so hearing her makes me ill. Eng and Jpn both bother me. Tbh I don’t mind Tora or any voice in XC1.
Funny how the characters with vocal prompts I don’t like are characters I really don’t like lol.

..Turns out I’ve once again done my usual trick of starting to answer asks (or in this case, selfship headcanon moons) and then getting extremely distracted because there were so many in there, so I apologise profusely!
I hate leaving things in the inbox for a long time, or leaving lots of things in the inbox, so I promise I’ll try to get to them and clear it out!!

past, present, and "future"
I wanted to commemmorate the fourth anniversary of XC2, and so I created this little render of all three of my self-inserts for the game! (Yes, I know Calanthe is technically from Xenosaga, but all my story with KOS-MOS takes place within the context of XC2, so.. it counts.)
I was also going to have my respective romantic F/Os here too - Pyra and Perun for Sapphire, Lora for Aline, and KOS-MOS for Calanthe - but I wanted to get this posted while it was still the 1st of December in most timezones, so I had to skip that part, unfortunately. Hopefully this is still okay!
Comments on and reblogs of my work are always okay, and appreciated, but are by no means required!
